Team Building Afternoon

FootGolf team building afternoons are just perfect for your company's away day. You can arrive from lunch time and enjoy 9 or 18 holes of FootGolf on our glorious golf course, accompanied by your very own course marshal who will guide you around the course and offer help, or another football should yours end up in a pond! Enjoy our views over Pendle Hill and if you're lucky, on a clear day you might even see Blackpool Tower. Our FootGolf course is changeling enough for the keen sports person but also fun enough for those beginners amongst the ranks.

After FootGolf, you have use of our changing facilities to glam up, ready for our buffet which includes a wide selection of food to suit all tastes, and is just what you need after working up an appetite. Relax and unwind in our court yard garden which is the perfect sun trap on summer days.

FootGolf

Simply take two great sports, football and golf and combine them to create FootGolf, the fastest growing sport in the world. To put it simply, you play golf with your feet. There's no heavy clubs to carry around and no need to speed hours on the course. All you need is some trainers, a size 5 football, your friends and an hour or two.

There are 10 basic rules to follow:

1. Wear golf apparel all the time
2. Your ball must be easy to identify
3. Review the score card and wait your turn. Make sure your kick will not interfere with other players.
4. The ball must be played in a single movement. Your foot should be set separate from the ball, clearly behind, before the kick.
5. Wait to play until the ball has completely come to rest. (It is not legal to stop the ball from rolling with the wind)
6. Kick off your ball from a position up to two meters behind round markers
7. Play the ball from where it lies: it's not allowed to move the ball or remove jammed objects.
8. The player farthest from the hole, is the first to kick the ball.
9. If the ball lands in a water hazard, retrieve it within 2 steps from the closest land point from where the ball entered the water.
10. Only on the greens may the balls be picked up to be cleaned or replaced.

Great finale to the Winter Season

Only 7 points separated the top 4 in this year's Winter Pairs, after Saturday's final Winter series round. Wayne Ivinson / John Welch, Richard Greaves / Gary Aldred, John Whittaker / Paul Clegg and Nick Avino / Martin Holden contested the Sunday final.
The cream rising to the top were John Whittaker and Paul Clegg shooting 38 on Sunday, complementing the 41 they scored on Saturday.
Second was Richard Greaves and Gary Aldred just three shots behind, topping off a great Winter Series for Gary, who also took top honours in the Winter Order of Merit, a full 30 points ahead of second place Michael Kelbie, with John Berry third.
Taking third place in the Pairs was long time leaders Wayne Ivinson and John Welch, with Captain Nick Avino and Martin Holden taking fourth.
With the Summer season due to start this weekend, this year's summer handicaps will be published on the notice board before this weekend's Texas Scramble. Also a new competition has been added to the honours list sponsored by Captain Nick Avino, the ''King of Birdies'' will be awarded to the player who scores, wait for it, the most birdies in the season. Table will be published in the newsletter.

This year's first Summer season competition has had the date brought forward from Sunday 6th March to Saturday 5th March; 09:30 shotgun start time remains the same.

This week's golf news!

Serpentine Swim Applicants only!

Amazingly Golf was still available at Mytton Fold this weekend, with 5 hardy swimmers/golfers managing to complete a round of Golf. Not surprisingly the scores were not going to break records, but great credit goes to all players that took part. Gary Aldred took 1st, Richard Graves 2nd and Peter main coming 3rd, special mention to David Bolton, Mike Chatburn and Gary Davies for also venturing out in the rain.

The winter pairs final appears to be any 4 from 5 depending on the last possible qualifying round on Saturday 27th, with only 5 points separating them. The final is to be played on Sunday 28th with 2nd in the table out with 3rd in the table at 9:00 and 1st in the table out with 4th in the table at 9:10.

The Mail on Sunday competition 2nd round draw has pitched Mytton Fold Men's team against Clitheroe, at home, this is the second time in three years our two clubs have been drawn together, Mytton Fold Ladies have been drawn against Nelson GC, both ties to be played by the 13th March.

While playing last Sunday, Tinky Winky (John Berry), smashed a drive off the 5th Tee, hitting the first tree on the left, ricocheting across the course stopping just short of the pond on the 2nd. Amazingly, his second shot, his trusty 3 wood, finds the green, with the telly tubby managing a par!! All witnessed by Ladies Captain and Ladies Captain Elect, Tarja Wilson and Brenda Griffith.

This Week's Golf News

Weather or not!

A hardy few battled through the wet and windy weather (again) to take part in this weeks winter competition. Hats off again to the ground staff for keeping the course open in such awful weather. Winning with a creditable 31 points was Dave Clegg (9), one point ahead of Mick Kelbie (11) who recorded 30 points. Third place went to Winter series leader Gary Aldred on 29 points. In the doubles Phil Ryan (15) and musical partner Peter Fox (14) reached 37 points to win from Wayne Iverson (4) and John Welch (14), with 36 points.

Big changes to the winter pairs table, as the majority have now recorded 9 scores and started to drop their lowest score from the best 9 total (Pairs results show later record the last 8 rounds) - 3 more weeks to go before the big final for the top 4.

Quiz and Pre-Season Get Together

There was an excellent turn-out for this year's Pre-Season Quiz Night with a total of 14 teams competing for the coveted title of Quiz Champions. Previous winners, DACT took an early look an early lead and, despite a couple of lower scoring rounds, came out on top at the end of the night with 75 points, 7 points clear of their closest contenders, Captain's Choice. The wooden spoon went to Two Men and Birdies for the third year. Frank Havard and Tony Wilson did a magnificent job as Quiz-masters and Ann Almond kept a close eye on the scoreboard, tallying up the rounds. Both Captains would like to thank all those who supported the event either through raffle donations or attending on the night. In total, £325 was raised for Anxiety UK.

This Week's Golf Round-Up

This Weeks Competition
Playing on the winter course with temporary greens due to the recent sub-zero temperatures, the scoring was unexpectedly very high in Saturday's medal competition. Two players were tied on nett 54, Gary Aldred and Steve Worral. Gary emerged the winner and retains top spot on the order of merit table. Steve Worrall would have had a much lower score had he not recorded a TEN on the tenth hole, followed by a birdie two on the 11th. Don't feel too bad for him, as his scooped the 'Two's Pot!' Third was Keith Fitzhenry with a nett 57.
In the doubles, early starters Phil Hammond and Peter Main, recorded 39 points, matching fellow big hitters Wayne Ivinson and John Welch, with Paul Clegg and John Whittaker close behind with 38 points, the same score as Club Captain Nick Avino and Martin Holden.

Quiz and Pre-Season Get Together
Don't forget that Friday 5th February sees the Pre-Season Get-Together and Quiz starting at 7.30pm. Teams of four (maximum) and an entry fee of just £10 per team. All proceeds are in aid of the Captains' charity, Anxiety UK, so come along for a light-hearted fun evening and contribute to a great cause. It would be very helpful if you could indicate your intention to bring along a team (or teams!) by completing the list on the Club's Noticeboard. This will help us in planning for the evening.

'Golf Club captains ''Pitch'' in for Anxiety UK.
Anxiety UK is delighted to have been chosen as the Captain's Charity for the year by both the Men's and Ladies' Captains of Mytton Fold Golf Club for 2016.
Nick Avino (Men's Captain) and Tarja Wilson (Ladies' Captain) will be organising a series of fundraising events during the course of their tenure at the Mytton Fold Golf Club, and will use the opportunity to not only raise funds for Anxiety UK but also to raise awareness of who we are, the services we offer and how important these are to those experiencing anxiety.
Anxiety UK Chief Executive Nicky Lidbetter said: 'We are delighted that Nick and Tarja have both chosen Anxiety UK as their nominated charity during their year as respective captains at Mytton Fold Golf Club. It is a wonderful gesture and we look forward to working with them both to maximise and promote the good work we do.''

The 19th hole is a relaxing lounge bar serving wholesome bar meals, drinks and snacks - with a wide choice of options so you can mix and match as you wish.

With a great three star hotel as part of the complex, it's a perfect time to get together with friends and colleagues for a couple of games of golf, a convivial dinner in the restaurant and a relaxing overnight stay with breakfast.

A double celebration was held at Mytton Fold Golf Club on the 31st. As well as bringing in the New Year with fellow members, we also celebrated Jim Bridge's 70th Birthday. A fantastic night was had by all, continuing into the early hours for those that could keep up, meaning the course was nearly empty on New Years Day. Credit and many thanks go to Jan Van Boeckel, Carole Maher, Nigel Fairhurst, Dave Griffiths and especially Lady Captain Elect, Brenda Griffiths for organising a superb night.

Lady Captain Elect, Brenda said: ''On behalf of myself, Jan, Carole and Nigel, a big thank you to everyone who supported the New Year's Eve party. Without that support the night would not have been such a success. I personally would like to thank my husband, Dave, for all this efforts in making the props and 'propping me up' all the way. I am overwhelmed by the feedback and can't thank you all enough for coming along and joining in with the fun.

Turkeys safe for a week!

The weather took its toll on Saturday and again on Sunday with no play at all, but we can report on a winning combination by Mytton Fold Golf Club members in the Maxitours Competition at Dunham Forest Thursday last week.

Tim Maxwell writes: ''The ever present pairing of Richard Palmer (11) and John Farnsworth (21). These guys have not won together for a couple of barren years and were delighted to see their fair share of putts fall in on the excellent Dunham greens. They scored an amazing Maxitours record 27 points on the back nine. Well played chaps-great golf!'' The 27 points included three birdies and a two on the eleventh hole.

Re-arranged Turkey Shoot Date

This has been re-arranged for this Saturday 12th December - 10am Shotgun Start.

Men's competition is a Stableford competition 16 holes 75% of your 8/9th's summer handicap (Handicaps published on notice board).
Prize table for men from first to tenth place. Ladies separate Stableford Competition.

If you entered the competition for last week, you will be automatically entered for this week's date. If you did not enter last week and wish to play, please contact the Golf Shop to make a booking. Anyone who cannot play on the new date, please also advise the Golf Shop.

Presentation Night: a Night to Remember

An entertaining evening awaited Mytton Golf members, family and friends at the annual presentation night.

All celebrated the great and the good of Mytton Fold, who collected their hard won trophies from this year's competitions.

Excellent farewell speeches from retiring Captains; Mick Bryan and Ann Almond. It was with great pride they presented a cheque for £3087 to East Lancs Hospice, well done to everyone that has contributed to the Charity this year.

We wish all the best to Nick Avino and Tarja Wilson, in their year in the spotlight as Mens' and Ladies' Captain. Their first Captains' task was to announce next year's charity; Anxiety UK. A collection box will be in the bar for your sand and water incursions in the coming year, please give generously for your errant shots. 

Nick revealed that for the coming season there will be a new trophy up for grabs: the ''Birdie Trophy'' to be won by the player with most birdies achieved in the competitive season.

Licensee Mick Mahon, stalwart scorer at Whalley Cricket Club, has been announced as the Captain Elect for 2017. Bookies favourite for this year was Brenda Griffiths, who was announced as Ladies Captain Elect.

Clodagh upsets the Plodder's (Late risers at least)

With the weather forecast issued for the weekend being so poor from lunchtime Saturday, it was the early risers who profited from the clear skies with Steve Korab (11) securing first place with a level par 32 points. Much travelled pair of Keith Fitzhenry and Garry Davies scored 31 points with Keith going further on the last six to take second place. With conditions deteriorating during the morning, four members carded ''Waterlogged Cards''. Sunday saw Malcolm (green-keeper) having to wade across the 10th in his wellies.

In the winter pairs, some mouth watering scores saw John Welch (14) and Wayne Iverson (4) record 40 points - a real splash when some greens were partially under water. This edged out Richard Greaves (18) and Gary Aldred (10) into second on 39 points. Third came new Captain Nick Avino (14) and partner Martin Holden (11) with 37 points.

Boing Boing Baggies

Like father, like son! Not only did he impress in 2015 at Mytton Fold Golf Club but Craig Hall then invites his father, Adrian, a West Bromwich Albion FC fan (like his son) and a member at Waterfront Golf Course, Rotherham (playing off a 25 handicap) who ends up winning Captain Mick Bryan's day out at Dean Wood Golf Course with 39 points. Last season, the Baggies won little away from the Hawthorns; this season, just like Adrian, has seen the Baggies win away at Stoke, Aston Villa and Norwich; and now Dean Wood Golf Course!

Always great entertainment Mytton Fold Golf Course Captain's Day, Mick Bryan used this last event of his year to bring great frivolity to his three playing partners and the watching masses. His play from the tee with his driver is usually reliable but an eye-watering TEN YARDS at Dean Wood will be remembered and noted for future opportunities!

The Captain dug deep to present some great prizes, the best received was for Kevin Shanley who recorded a creditable 21 points on the front nine holes. So pleased with his win, he was still regaling in his success in the Whalley Chip Shop on Saturday evening!

Many thanks to the Captain for organising the event and prizes .... and for remembering his Captain's Green jacket!

Abi 'gale' Storms the Party

The weather took its toll on Saturday and Sunday again with just a hardy few braving the elements.

The incredible fact of the weekend must be that Mytton Fold Golf Club must be the only course in Lancashire where play from the fairways (lush and free of divots) was possible and on to greens that were fast for the time of year.

No single competition was played but in the doubles Dave Clegg (10) and his diminutive partner Mike Chatburn (16) scored an incredible 37 points over sixteen holes to take first place.

Second, recording 34 points, were Peter Main (14) and partner and teacher Phil Hammond (5). In third place on 33 points were Gary Aldred (14) and Richard Greaves (18) who entertained the bar with his wonderful repartee.

Lancashire Tourism Awards

On Thursday 5th November, we attending Marketing Lancashire's annual Lancashire Tourism Awards and were part of a 600 strong audience at The Empress Ballroom in Blackpool's famous Winter Gardens, celebrating Lancashire's tourism economy.

Twenty of the country's finest tourism businesses received awards for excellence in their field, with most of the winners having the opportunity to go on to represent Lancashire in the national Visit England Awards for Excellence 2016.

The evening began with a drinks reception in the Winter Garden's Floral Hall before we took to our seats and enjoyed a delicious 3 course Lancashire inspired dinner catered by Blackpool-based Rowley's Offside.

The awards were hosted by Preston-born, TV journalise Ranvir Singh just a week after she received her own award for Media Personality of the Year at the Asian Media Awards. A proud Lancastrian, Ranvir was pleased to be named by Ruth Connor, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire as one of the organisation's first high profile Lancashire Ambassadors.

In her opening speech Ruth Connor said...

'Tourism is big business in Lancashire. Importantly growth is being delivered with over 63 million visitors annually, a £3.6 billion spend and over 56,000 jobs being supported by the visitor economy.'

'We know we have a great tourism story to tell here in Lancashire that is absolutely first class. Our collective goal is simple, more interest and enquiries for Lancashire means more business being generated, a thriving visitor economy that is one of our biggest strengths here in the county.'

'The aim is to grow the tourism sector in Lancashire to 70 million visitors by 2020, increase spend economy in the economy by 3/4 billion pounds and deliver an additional 5000 jobs.'

'There is no better place to be than Lancashire which offers such a high level range and choice for our visitors and residents, that is continually evolving, improving and being invested in.'

Relaxing Christmas House Party

It's nice to get away for Christmas - so relax and let us do the work! We always enjoy Christmas as much as our guests - because we always have such lovely people staying. Christmas with us is a relaxing affair - it's about good food, great service, and good company. What it's not, we promise, is a full-packed programme - this is about doing just as much or as little as you wish to!

On Christmas Eve, enjoy tea and cakes in the lounge from 3pm, before a welcome Prosecco reception and dinner. Christmas Day of course is when lunch is the main event and this evening we'll serve a simple buffet supper to round off the day. There's lots of things to do on Boxing Day - you can visit the Wild Life sanctuary right on the doorstep, take a drive out to Blackpool which is only thirty miles away, or simply explore the rich and historic heritage that is Lancashire and of course lots of lovely Boxing Day sales at Boundary Mill. There's a final dinner this evening but of course you can always stay longer - there is so much to see and places to explore!

We have three fully accessible rooms which meet Level 2 standards with Visit Britain, We also have the Gold Award from Green Tourism in recognition of our commitment to the environment.
